Ludhiana: A 45-year-old trader suffered severe injuries while taking a wrong U-turn from the Dugri flyover late on Sunday night. His car was hit by a speeding truck at the Southern bypass. The car was completely damaged. Even the front portion of the truck got damaged after hitting the side railing of the road.
While the unidentified driver of the truck fled the spot, the injured car occupant — Davinder Singh, 45 of Dugri who is a garment trader — was rushed to a hospital by the onlookers.
Davinder was returning home from his shop in Janakpuri around 11.30 pm on Sunday on his Hyundai Creta car when the accident occured.
Sub-inspector Neeraj Chaudhary said the truck was coming from Doraha side and was moving towards Ferozepur road. Meanwhile, Davinder who was coming from Jawaddi side was taking a U-turn from the Dugri flyover. The truck coming from the flyover was speeding and the driver could not apply brakes on time. Both the vehicles collided and crashed into the side railing.
The SHO said the truck driver escaped from the spot and passersby took the injured car occupant to a nearby private hospital from where he was referred to the civil hospital. Thereafter, the people also traced the family of the injured man, with the help of the vehicle’s registration number. The family then reached the civil hospital and admitted Davinder to DMC Hospital. Davinder’s condition is critical. He is admitted to an ICU ward. Chaudhary said the police have traced the employer of the truck driver who is based in Gurugram. The statements are yet to be recorded to lodge an FIR.
