Dibrugarh: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the iconic Rang Ghar in Sivasagar that once served as the royal sports pavilion for Ahom kings and nobles will be developed into an international tourist hub.
The chief minister, while visiting the Ahom-era monument in Sivasagar, said the government is planning to acquire 78 bighas of land adjacent to Rang Ghar to execute the project. For land acquisition, an amount of Rs 25 crore to Rs 30 crore will be spent, he said. Apart from giving an overall facelift to the iconic structure, several open stages will be constructed in the vicinity of the Rang Ghar.
The ambitious project will also feature light and sound shows, guest house for visitors and attractions for small children.
“We all know the historic significance of the Rang Ghar which goes back to the Ahom era. It is already a big tourist attraction but we want to further develop it into an international tourist hub with added amenities. For that, we are going to acquire 78 bighas of land adjacent to the historic structure, ” the CM said.
