COIMBATORE: A 52-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for raping three minor girls in his house in a village near
Perumanallur here last week.
The Avinashi all-woman
police said two of the rape survivors were siblings aged seven and five years, while the third survivor was a 10-year-old girl, who was a Class V student.
“Around 11am on April 24, the elderly man lured the girls, who were playing on a street, into his house by promising them confectioneries. Later, he raped the minor girls repeatedly and threatened them not to reveal the incident to anyone,” a police officer said.
On Sunday, one of the girls confided the matter to her mother, who lodged a complaint with the Avinashi all-woman police. Inspector S Saraswathi held an inquiry with the minor girls and sent them to the
Tirupur government hospital for medical test, which confirmed rape.
Police subsequently arrested the elderly man the same evening. He was booked under Section 5(l)(m) read with 6 of the
Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Section 506(ii) of the Indian Penal Code, and produced before the special court for Pocso cases. Later, he was lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison under judicial
custody.
The officer said the elderly man was working with a banian company in the district. “He has a daughter, who was married off recently.”
