Noida: The owner and workers of a food joint allegedly stabbed two customers after they objected to stale beverages in Sector 15 late on Saturday night, police said on Monday. Police have arrested two of the accused and sent another, a juvenile, to correction home.
Police identified two of the arrested as Ajay Jaiswal, the owner of The Food Villa or Chai Sutta Cafe in Sector 15 under Phase 1 police station jurisdiction, and his staffer, Shani, both residents of Noida.
Speaking to TOI, the complainant, Shailendra Pal (25), who lives in New Ashok Nagar with his two friends, Vishal Gautam (25) and Rohit Nishad (25), said that he reached home around 11.45 pm on Saturday after work. “The two (Gautam and Nishad) had not eaten, so we planned to go out. We headed towards Sector 16 but decided to stop mid-way for beverages in Sector 15. We found The Food Villa or Chai Sutta Cafe open and ordered a cold coffee and shake. The drinks were served, but we found the taste odd after a sip,” Pal, who works as a manager at Saffron Restaurant in Sector 121, said.
The three objected to the taste, which led to abuses and a scuffle with the owner, who was serving them. “Then one of the workers got a knife. We tried to escape, but one of them stabbed Gautam in the back. When Nishad and I intervened to save him, they stabbed Nishad in the chest,” Pal said.
According to Pal, the accused fled when they saw his friends bleeding. “They lowered the shutter and fled in opposite directions. Nishad was fainting, so the three of us rode to Kailash Hospital. Later, I made a call on 112 (emergency number) and informed the police about the incident,” he said.
VB Joshi, spokesperson of Kailash Hospital in Sector 27, said that both patients are undergoing treatment. “They were admitted to the hospital at 2.47 am on Sunday. Gautam is critical with multiple stab wounds, while Nishad has a stab injury on his chest. Both are in the ICU,” Joshi said.
One of the family members of Nishad said that Pal called them around 3 am and informed them about the incident. “Nishad and Gautam are childhood friends and have done their schooling together in Kanpur. I want my brother to recover at the earliest. The culprits should not be spared,” said Rohit’s elder brother Mohit Nishad. He also said that Nishad works with Just Dial and Gautam with RSPL Group.
Police have filed an FIR under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) , along with sections of the arms Act. “We have recovered a knife used in the crime,” Ranvijay Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida, said.
During police interrogation, Jaiswal revealed that the three customers ordered a cold coffee and a shake. There was a delay in serving the coffee, and the customers did not like the taste. So, they allegedly misbehaved with Jaiswal, who was serving them, and beat him up. “Jaiswal cried for help, and the others from the kitchen ran to save him with knives in their hands. While they were trying to save him, Vishal sustained a stab injury on the back. Two of the accused have injury marks on their neck, too,” said Rajneesh Verma, assistant commissioner of police, Noida.
