PUNE: A 21-year-old motorcyclist sustained a fracture on his left leg after his bike crashed into a police patrol vehicle near the ABC Farms chowk in Koregaon Park around 2am on Sunday.
The injured victim Tanmay Gaikwad, a sculptor from Mohammadwadi, is recuperating in a private hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.
Sub-inspector Gajanan Bhosale from Mundhwa police said, “The police jeep was conducting patrolling in front of a five-star hotel and was passing via the ABC Farms chowk, when the police driver took a right-turn. Gaikwad riding on bike in high speed was coming from the opposite side, when he lost control over his vehicle and collided head on with the jeep.”
Bhosale said, "Gaikwad was discharged after administering first aid at the Sassoon general hospital. He later turned up at the police station for recording his statement but he complained of severe pain in right leg. He was later shifted to a private hospital.”
“Both the vehicles were damaged in the accident. Two policemen including an assistant inspector present in the jeep escaped unhurt. An FIR relating to rash and negligent driving was registered against the injured victim under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code,” he added.
