CHENNAI: In the wake of recent viral videos which captured the unruly behaviour of school children, the school education department is planning to give counselling to students.
“Based on the recommendations of the headmasters, we will employ experts to give counselling,” school education minister
Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said in a statement.
He announced a slew of measures to create awareness, understand the children and encourage them to participate in creative activities from next academic year.
“To know the students better, the school education department will conduct monthly parents-teachers-students meetings with the help of school management committees. Now defunct literary, fine arts clubs in schools will be revived. Students will be encouraged to take part in sports activities, literary activities and arts festivals besides academics,” Poyyamozhi said.
Students who excel in the activities will be taken on education tours to other countries, states and other places.
“The department will conduct an awareness campaign in the first week of next academic year on mental health, preventing child abuse and addiction to drugs. The department will encourage students to garden and use vegetables, fruits and spinach in nutritious meals for students,” he added.
The department will also bring out three magazines to encourage the creativity of school students.
