Banda DM drives his driver home on his retirement, earns plaudits

Kanpur: In a rare display of compassion and humility, the district magistrate of Banda drove his driver to his house in the official vehicle on the latter’s retirement day. Imtiazuddin Khan alias Murtaza had no idea that on the last day of his service, his ‘saheb’, the district magistrate, would make him feel so special and give him such an emotional parting gift which he would remember all his life.
The occasion was the retirement of Imtiazuddin, the driver of DM Banda Anurag Patel, who made his driver a one-day ‘saheb' and himself became his driver.
The employees at the district magistrate’s office said that Imtiazuddin turned very emotional and broke down when Banda DM Anurag Patel opened the door of the vehicle for him, made him sit on the side seat and sat on the driver’s seat himself after a warm send-off by colleagues on the day of his retirement from service. The DM dropped him home and thanked him for his services.
Imtiazuddin was posted as the DM's car driver in Banda collectorate and his retirement was due on 30 April. To make his retirement memorable, the DM bid him farewell in a unique way to honour his service.
On Saturday morning, Imtiazuddin reached the collectorate and as usual drove his ‘saheb' from his residence to the collectorate.
In the evening, when Imtiazuddin came to drop the DM home, the latter took the keys from him and drove him to his home, much to the happiness of many.
Later, when asked about his gesture, the DM said, “As a colleague, he deserved this honour. Throughout his distinguished service, Imtiaz has been a hard and honest worker. I wanted to reward him and made him sit in the car not as driver but as ‘saheb’.”
ADM (Judicial) Amitabh Yadav and ADM MP Singh were also present in the farewell ceremony.
Imtiazuddin said, “Till now I have served more than 12 collectors, but I haven’t come across such kind and loving behaviour. I am really proud of DM Sir. When I was preparing to take him back home, he took the key from me and made me sit by his side and took to the wheels and dropped me home.”
