81 dengue cases in Delhi so far

Five fresh dengue cases have been reported in Delhi in the last one week, taking the city's tally to 81, according to a civic report released on Monday. Till April 23, this year, 76 dengue cases had been recorded in the city. Five fresh dengue cases were reported last week. At least 81 dengue cases have been recorded so far this year, the report said.

Delhi HC extends interim order for reopening of Nizamuddin Markaz premises till October 14

The Delhi High Court on Monday extended the interim order for the reopening of five floors of Bangle Wali Masjid at Nizamuddin Markaz premises till October 14. The High court had passed an interim order on April 1 on the application moved by Delhi Waqf Board and Management committee. Justice Jasmeet Singh on Monday adjourned the matter till October 14 at the request of the counsel appearing for the Central Government. The bench also continued the interim order at the request of both parties.

Delhi: 3 associates of man who staged attack on himself to implicate 2 others held

The police have arrested three associates of a man who staged an attack on himself to implicate two persons in order to take revenge from them, officials said on Monday. The three associates have been identified as Kamrudeen (38), Swayambhu Swami (34) and Rahish (40), they said, adding the fourth and main accused Bhure (35) would also be nabbed soon. The trio along with Bhure had planned and conspired to take revenge from Mehfooz and Fahim by falsely implicating them in a case of firing as planned by them, police said.

The Delhi Police has arrested two more accused in connection with the communal clashes that broke out in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri on April 16 during a procession on Hanuman Jayanti, police said on Monday. The police nabbed Yunus (48), brother of Saleem Chikna who has already been arrested, and Sheikh Salim (22) on Sunday night, they said, adding that both are residents of Jahangirpuri.

Rs 10,000-fine, jail for plying vehicles without fitness certificate

Delhi Transport department has warned of action including fine up to Rs 10,000 and even imprisonment to the owners and drivers of transport vehicles, including those of government departments, found plying without a valid certificate of fitness. The move comes after the department found that many such vehicles were found plying without valid fitness certificates in violation of the the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. The enforcement teams have been asked to keep looking for such vehicles on the roads and soon a drive will be launched to catch the violators, said a senior officer of Delhi government's Transport department.

Man dies by suicide at Metro station

A man died by suicide after he jumped on the track before an approaching train at Delhi's Udyog Bhawan metro station on Sunday morning. According to Delhi Police, the man had jumped from the platform toward the destination HUDA City Centre at Udyog Bhawan metro station. The age of the deceased is believed to be around 35 years. However, neither any suicide note nor any identity document has been found from him. Due to the incident, the operation of the Yellow Line of Delhi Metro was disrupted for some time during the morning peak hour.

Ex-boxer held for spate of crimes

Delhi Police on Sunday said they have arrested two people, including a former national-level boxer, for their involvement in several crimes. The accused, Chetan and Dheerpal, were nabbed from south Delhi and Najafgarh respectively. “In 2010, he played in the national level boxing championship from Daman and Diu. Till 2012, he continued playing, practising boxing and abandoned playing further in 2012,” police said. In 2013, he came in contact with Vikas Lagarpuria through Dheerpal and joined the Lagarpuria gang.
