Ludhiana: Soon, the staff working at the office of commissioner of police will be seen working in the field, at police stations and even doing patrolling, as the officials are preparing a list of the police personnel who would be shifted from the office to the field work.
Sources said in the last few days, many crimes have been reported in the city, be they snatching, robberies, carjacking, kidnapping or scuffles. With limited number of staff, the department is facing difficulty in increasing the police presence on the roads. The police commissioner has thus planned to shift some of the police personnel from his office.
Around 180 police personnel work at the CP office complex, doing more or less clerical job. These staffers usually work at the offices handling different branches.
Commissioner of police,
Kaustubh Sharma said, “Approximately, the population of Ludhiana would be 40 lakh. However, the number of police personnel we have at our disposal is about 4,000. It is a fact that more people are needed in Ludhiana and we are trying to get them. Till that time, all I can do is utilise the existing personnel in the best possible way. Some of the staffers are over burdened on the field and some have been working in the offices only. I need to balance this inequality.”
According to him, of the 180 staffers at the CP office, 60 to 70 have been identified to be shifted out of the office. They will either be sent to the police stations or will be deployed for night patrolling. “We are working on it and soon this will be executed,” added Sharma.
Recently, the CP had given the
PCR team day off and made all the senior officials and police station staffers do night patrolling.
