Authorities say a mom in Wright went to nightclub, left three small kids alone
WRIGHT — The discovery of a 3-year-old child asleep on a sidewalk at about 1 a.m. Saturday led to the child’s mother being arrested on three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, according to a report from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to Gibson Street, just southeast of Beal Parkway and Racetrack Road, around 1 a.m. Saturday after a security officer at an apartment complex found a 3-year-old wrapped in a blanket and asleep on a sidewalk, according to the S.O. report.
Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of two other children, ages 7 and 6, respectively, asleep alone in an apartment at the complex.
The children’s mother, 25-year-old Shyla Heidelberg, was arrested for child neglect after she returned to the apartment and admitted she had gone out to a nightclub about 90 minutes earlier, leaving the children unattended, according to the S.O. report.
Heidelberg remained jailed without bond Sunday morning in the county jail. She is scheduled to appear in circuit court on June 14.
