Armed woman surrenders at Orlando McDonald’s after shootout, standoff with deputies

·1 min read

An armed woman was taken into custody Sunday morning following a shootout and six-hour standoff with deputies at a McDonald’s restaurant off Orange Blossom Trail.

No one was injured during the gunfire exchange, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The three deputies involved were placed on paid administrative leave as the shooting is investigated, the agency said. The woman’s identity was not immediately available.

Deputies responded to the McDonald’s around 10:35 p.m. Saturday after getting an armed robbery call about a woman in her 30s who fired a handgun inside the restaurant and made threatening statements, OCSO said. The employees and customers were able to escape unharmed.

When deputies arrived at the McDonald’s, the woman shot at them from inside the restaurant and deputies returned fire, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities tried to negotiate a peaceful surrender with the woman and she came out of the restaurant without further incident around 4:45 a.m.

OCSO said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting and turn over its findings to the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office for review before the agency conducts its own internal investigation.
