CHENNAI: For the fourth consecutive day, the daily positive cases in Tamil Nadu have continued to decline. On Sunday, 47 people tested positive, with almost half of them (25) from Chennai.
Despite a drop in infection count, the number of active cases is increasing, and is currently above the 500-mark. Chennai has 345 active cases.
This is because the number of discharges has not outnumbered the new case count for the past one week. However, health authorities are optimistic that most patients are suffering only from mild infections and the gap will reduce in the coming weeks.
The state is looking at increasing the number of samples tested. A thousand more samples are being screened at labs everyday compared to what was done last week. Around 18,000 samples are being analysed at labs across the state but the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) has remained unchanged at 0.3% during this time interval. Even the death count hasn't changed for over a month now.
