CHANDIGARH: In terms of growth of active cases of Covid-19, the city is nationally at the third slot.
Though the total positivity rate is not high, the sudden rise in daily cases from very few, has placed the city in higher ranks. Bihar and Rajasthan are at first and second place.
The highest single day surge after the end of the third wave was reported on April 26 with 15 cases.
“It is because of that one daily spike active case growth is on the higher side. However, the situation is not worrying at the moment as the average total positivity rate is 0.8%. The active cases growth itself looks high because of a sudden spike from a lower base,” said Dr Rijo John, adjunct professor, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kochi.
On Sunday, nine new Covid-19 cases were reported, while nine patients were discharged.
The active cases are 71. The national average of weekly total positivity rate is 0.7%.
“Since April-end there has been a rise in the daily cases which was not more than three daily. We need to monitor and observe for another week to see the trend,” said a public health expert.
The confirmed cases are 92,069, including 1,165 deaths. The total recovery count is 90,833. There are two patients on oxygen support at different city-based hospitals, while no one is on a ventilator.
“There is a rise in cases, but there are no severe infections. As most have been vaccinated and have developed antibodies against both delta and omicron variants. These are the variants which are in circulation at the moment,” said a public health expert.
