Truck hits bike, woman crushed under its wheels

Ludhiana: Returning from the marriage function of her niece in village Mangat, a woman was crushed to death by a speeding truck on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana national highway near Ladhowal on Saturday evening.
Satnam Kaur (46) of Kutbewal Gujjran village had gone to attend the marriage at Mangat village here along with her son Shukar Singh.
Shukar told police that he and his mother were riding his motorcycle on a flyover near an amusement park when a speeding truck hit his motorcycle from behind. While his mother fell on the middle of the road, he fell on the other side. In the accident, his mother was crushed under the truck.
Passers-by stopped the truck. However, its driver escaped from there, leaving the truck behind. Thereafter, Ladhowal police reached the spot.
When the information reached the village of the woman, several people gathered at the accident spot. They also tried to set the truck on fire, but the cops present there stopped them.
ASI Sandeep Kumar, investigating officer said a case under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 427 (mischief causing damage to amount of fifty rupees) of IPC had been registered against the accused, identified as Habeef-ulla of Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir. Police are trying to trace him.
