Gurgaon: The municipal corporation of Gurgaon has ordered its officials to find out who dumps construction and demolition (C&D) waste illegally on either side of the Gurgaon-Faridabad road. However, no directions have been given to the officials to remove the waste.
“A meeting was held recently in which it was discussed that fresh batches of C&D waste are now being dumped on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road in huge quantities. It was discussed that around 500 trolleys of waste have been dumped so far on the stretch. We have decided to find out who is dumping this waste. There are however no orders on lifting this waste,” said an
MCG official, privy to the matter.
The official said that around 2,500 tonnes of fresh C&D waste is dumped on the roadside every day. The officials have been directed to seek assistance from
GMDA and police for the footage covered by their cameras installed on the stretch to catch hold of the people illegally dumping the waste.
The civic body currently does not have a firm to collect and transport C&D waste. As a stop-gap arrangement, a four-member panel was formed on March 23 to look into the complaints. The panel had proposed that either the private firm processing the C&D waste should collect the waste or another private firm be given the work for a short span of time. However, despite the committee’s recommendations, the civic body still has made no arrangements.
The problem meanwhile continues in other parts of the city too. “We raised the issue of C&D waste being dumped outside
Ardee city with the commissioner recently and he assured us that it will be resolved. However, nothing has been done so far. Even when the MCG had a firm to pick the waste, their service was not regular. We had once made the request to pick the C&D waste from our society and paid Rs 5,000. However, it took them nearly two months to clear the debris,” said
Chaitali Mandhotra, a resident of Ardee City.
