Private schools asked submit fee hike proposals between May 8-10

By introducing a legislation to regulate fees, the state government has placed a cap of Rs 15,000 for a primary section, Rs 25,000 for secondary section and Rs 30,000 for higher secondary sections to be charged for a student. If a school charges less than these amounts, they just have to tender affidavits and inform the committee. Schools, which intend to charge higher amounts, have to submit proposals with justification for higher fees.
Sources said that most school managements are seeking 30-40% hike in fees citing 25% fee cut during 2020-21 academic year and nominal rise permitted in 2021-22 on account of Covid-19 pandemic. They claim that due to Covid disruption in last two years, it has become difficult for them to run schools.
The regulatory committee aims at early procedure so that by the time academic year starts, the disputes between parents and schools over refund can be avoided.
