The BJP government in Gujarat is planning to “dissolve the assembly in a week or 10 days and declare early elections”, said Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in Surat.
Kejriwal, who arrived here late Saturday to hold a rally in Bharuch with tribal leader and Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) MLA Chhotu Vasava and his MLA son Mahesh Vasava on Sunday, is likely to officially announce an alliance with the party ahead of the assembly polls.
Responding to questions about his tweet, which suggested that the BJP government in Gujarat “was afraid of AAP” and was therefore declaring early elections, Kejriwal told mediapersons at the Surat airport: “We have heard from our reliable sources that the AAP has caused quite a lot of tension in the BJP. So far, there were friendly matches between the Congress and BJP… They do not want the AAP to get much time and hence, are in a mood for early elections… Sources tell us that in a week or 10 days, the Assembly will be dissolved and early elections will be declared.”
This is Kejriwal’s second visit to Gujarat in less than a month and his first visit to South Gujarat and Vadodara, so far.
