Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has started cleaning up the area around heritage buildings in the city. It will take one building every week under the drive. The civic body had been drawing flak of late for its lack of upkeep of heritage buildings in the city. Heritage enthusiasts had also highlighted the damages to some of the heritage structures in the city in the recent past. The corporation has now started the process to clean the surroundings of such buildings and on Saturday, it started with the Jaysinhrao Library opposite the Old Kothi Building. The library had come up in the year 1882. Mayor Keyur Rokadiya and municipal commissioner Shalini Agarwal oversaw the cleanliness drive at the library. The drive is being conducted in coordination with the Heritage Trust that promotes heritage in and around the city. VMC sources said that besides ensuring the heritage buildings are maintained, the drive was aimed at promoting the sites as tourist spots.
