Nagpur: The nuisance detection squad of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Saturday imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on Wockardt Hospital (Shankar Nagar) for disposing biomedical waste along with regular garbage. The hospital has been fined for violating Bio-Medical Waste Management (BWM) Rules which states that hospital waste should be disposed off in a scientific manner. On Saturday, the hospital was found handing over the bio waste with solid waste in an garbage collecting vehicle. Acting on a tip off, the raid was carried out and following directives of assistant municipal commissioner of Dharampeth zone, the NDS team imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on the hospital. “If the hospital management is found repeating the act, the fine amount will be revised,” said an NMC official.
