Bhubaneswar: One classroom of each department of
Utkal University will be converted into a smart classroom, higher education minister Arun Kumar
Sahoo said at the institute’s 51st convocation here on Saturday.
“I have approved a proposal to convert at least one classroom in each department of this university into a smart classroom where best of the facilities will be provided. University authorities should start the work as soon as possible,” Sahoo said.
He added that the premier institute can take any initiative for the betterment of its infrastructure and students. The minister assured that there will be no problem in terms of funds.
Sahoo said, “The state government has released Rs 60 crore over the past three years for varsity’s development. Constructing a boundary wall around the campus and an auditorium, renovating four hostels and other works have been completed with the funds.”
On development of research ecosystem, Sahoo said, “The new generation scholars should be guided and motivated for better research and publication of world-class articles. The state government has already taken steps in terms of development of research as per the provisions of the National Education Policy.”
“Teachers should select some students that they want to mentor and stay in touch with their parents as well. This will make students more responsible towards their studies. If this methods turns into a success, many more students will pursue higher studies,” Sahoo added.

Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi said the system of contractual appointment of teachers should be changed.
Altogether 189 scholars received their doctorate degrees on the occasion.
