YouTube channels aren’t just for creators who want to upload videos. Creating a channel offers extra features for people that just want to consume content on the platform. A Google account allows you to subscribe to channels and like videos, but that is about it. If you want to comment on videos, create video playlists or simply have a public-facing YouTube account, you will need to create a YouTube channel.
You will first need to create a Gmail account if you don’t already have one. You will have to open up a mobile or desktop browser as channels can’t be created within the YouTube app.
How to start a personal YouTube channel
Log into YouTube in a mobile or desktop browser.
Select your profile picture (usually in the upper right corner) and select “Create a channel.”
A window will appear allowing you to upload a profile picture and edit your YouTube channel name.
4. Click “create channel.”
How to create a YouTube channel for a brand
Open YouTube in a mobile or desktop browser.
Select your profile picture (usually in the upper right corner) and select “Switch account."
Select “View all channels.”
Select “Create a channel.”
A window will pop up allowing you to create a new channel name.
6. Hit “Create”
If you don’t have a Google brand account, one will be created for the new channel. If you manage an existing Google brand account, you will have the option to link the new channel to the brand account.
