Jamshedpur: A day after the district administration asked the school managments to cut short the duration of class hours in view of the prevailing heatwave, many schools in East Singhbhum on Saturday rescheduled the classes from 6am to 10.30am. Several private schools, however, maintained that the revised timing would be followed from Monday. “The rise in temperature forced the change in school timing in the interest of the students’s health,” said deputy commissioner Vijaya Jadhav. The district education officer said the DC’s order left no room for the schools to disregard the revised schedule. “We received the notification copy today (on Saturday),” said St Mary’s English School media in-charge AK Pandey. Parents have welcomed the DC’s decision. “With the temperature crossing 44 degrees Celsius and heatwave sweeping across the state, the revised school timings should have been announced by the government a week ago,” said S N Pathak, whose two daughters study at DBMS English School.
