Rajkot: Sleuths of Rajkot crime branch nabbed a man along with three of his accomplices for thrashing his aunt and her paramour and also robbing valuables worth Rs 2 lakh including cash from their home on March 17 night.

Vijay Mohaniya (24) the kingpin of the loot along with his aides Arvind Hathila (25), Lakshman Bhuriya (27) and Mehul Bhuriya (43), all from Dahod. The four were accused of robbing and thrashing
Virji and
Kanta in Sanosara village in the outskirts of Rajkot when they were asleep. A fifth accused, Mahesh Mohaniya, is still at large, cops said.
The robbers had covered their faces to avoid detection by Mohaniya’s aunt, Kanta.
Kanta along with her husband, Soma, has been cultivating farmland in Rajkot district on contract basis for the past few years. She called her nephew
Vijay along with his wife and son last year to Sanosara village and helped him get 10 acre land for cultivation on contract basis.
J V Dhola, inspector, crime branch said, “While living in Sanosara, Vijay came to know about his aunt’s extramarital affair with Virji and also tried to convince her to break the illicit relationship, but in vain. Kanta, thereafter, forced Vijay to leave the village as he knew about her afair and did not pay his outstanding labour charge of Rs 78,000 too.” According to police Kanta’s husband, Soma, is physically disabled.
After returning to his village, Vijay talked about this to Mehul Bhuriya, a distant relative and also Arvind Hathila, Vijay’s brother-in-law and cousin Mahesh Mohaniya. All of them decided to teach Kanta and her paramour a lesson, cops added.
The five accused gathered at Chotila, had dinner before reaching Kuvadva. Then they boarded an auto to Sanosara village armed with sticks, pipes and other sharp edged weapons. They reached the village when the couple was asleep. The five accused attacked the couple, forced Kanta to remove all her jewellery, broke the lock of the cupboard and looted cash and jewellery.
