Varanasi: RN Tripathi, a 1971 batch alumnus of the mechanical engineering department of IIT(BHU) and promoter of a Kanpur based company, donated Rs one crore for the establishment of Mechatronics and Automation Laboratory in the mechanical engineering department.
According to the IIT(BHU) spokesperson, Tripathi handed over the bank draft to the director, IIT(BHU) Prof Pramod Kumar Jain on April 26. Tripathi visited the institute along with his two batch mates VS Garg and Rajeev Pandey and their spouses. The director welcomed them to their alma mater. The programme was also attended by the dean (resource and alumni affairs) Prof Rajeev Srivastava and others.
The institute has decided to name the proposed laboratory after the donor. Prof Jain expressed his gratitude and thanked Tripathi for his generous contribution. He said that the Mechatronics and Automation Lab will be an advanced lab to be equipped with latest modern instrumentation facility in two phases. The donation received will be utilized to set-up the laboratory in phase-I with modern equipment like Industrial Mechatronics Training Systems, Integrated Robotic Mig Welding Cell, Computerized Ultrasonic Welding Machine, Mini Robot DIY Kit (5 Axis) etc. The lab will be further strengthened in second phase with other modern instrumentation facility after one year from the further support to be received from the donor.
The objective of the proposed laboratory is to provide a focussed laboratory environment to UG/PG/research scholars to conduct interdisciplinary research and industry-driven innovation in the cutting-edge areas of mechatronics and automation. It will also have a provision of conducting skill development and training programmes to train the technical staffs of MSMEs.
