SURAT: The
Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (
VNSGU) administration on Wednesday suspended 12 officials of Z F Wadia Women’s College & N K Jhota College of Commerce from examination duty after a 13-member committee submitted a preliminary inquiry report on the alleged paper leak case.
Those suspended include college principal Dr
Ashok Desai.
VNSGU also wrote to the city police for an inquiry. Police have started the investigation into the incident to find out what exactly happened and if there was any wrong intention on the part of anyone.
The alleged paper leak incident came to light on April 20 when vice-chancellor K N Chavda was alerted that the sealed covers of question papers of five subjects of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce had been opened a day before the exam.
“The covers of five subjects were opened a day before the exam date. But the details were not shared with VNSGU. Hence, the university cancelled the exams and started an inquiry,” said a VNSGU official.
The official said it had not come to the university’s knowledge whether the questions or the images of the papers were circulated to students. Exams of English, Gujarati, History and Home Science of BA (semester 6) paper 18 and Indian Economy Recent Trends of
BCom (semester 6) paper 18 were cancelled.
The city police will call the college and VNSGU officials who were involved in the examination process to find out if there was any criminal angle in the incident.
“All those calling it paper leak have been asked to give evidence if the question papers or questions were in circulation before the exam. But we have not been given any evidence yet. Hence, the help of the police is being taken,” said Prof K N Chavda.
