Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 and Tiger Shroff-Tara Sutaria starrer Heropanti 2 are set to release in theatres on April 29. Runway 34, which has been directed by Devgn, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh and Angira Dhar. The film marks Devgn’s return to direction after Shivaay.
In a recent chat with indianexpress.com, Devgn said, “This time, I got a very solid script that required a lot of claustrophobia. It wasn’t very easy to shoot this film because I wanted to realistically create that feeling of claustrophobia in an aircraft. The size of the cockpit is not more than 7 feet by 7 feet, and there’s a lot of drama happening inside. So, I needed the camera to move in that much space. I didn’t want to cheat the audience by shooting these sequences in a bigger cockpit, or open the flaps of the cockpit so that I can move my cameras from outside. So, in that much space, creating the drama and shooting with seven to eight cameras was very exciting.”
Ajay Devgn on Wednesday took to Twitter and said that Hindi was the national language of the country. The tweet sparked a heated debate between Devgn and Sudeep. While the two, in the end, said that “perhaps something was lost in translation” and the statement was “taken out of context”, the tweet war had many other celebrities chiming in on the north-south divide when it comes to pan-Indian films.
While promoting Heropanti 2, filmmaker Ahmed Khan in a statement had said, “Working with Tiger Shroff always feels like coming home. The way he submits to the story is commendable.”
He added, “He’s the biggest and the youngest action hero the industry has currently. The way he maneuvers complex action sequences and makes them look super effortless, speaks volumes of his constant dedication because this guy really puts his 200% into his work. Besides being such an easy going actor to work with, he is the most massy actor in the young lot and that’s another reason it’s always a rewarding experience working with him.”
When Ajay was asked how was his experience directing megastar Amitabh Bachchan in his directorial, the actor-director told Indian express.com, “It was fabulous because he is a director’s actor. I have always shared a great rapport with him. The kind of dedication and passion he has towards work, I don’t think anybody can have. I guess it is a lot easier to direct him because he totally hands himself to the director. Even if you are okay with the shot, he will say he wants to do one more. When you tell him that you got what you want from him, he will say he wants to give one more shot for himself. The hunger to do better is what really keeps him going.”
Riteish Deshmukh took to Twitter and called the Ajay Devgn directorial a "heart pumping Aerial thriller."
Actor Ajay Devgn, who has acted in and directed Runway 34, also starring megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh hosted a star-studded special screening for his friends from the Hindi film industry on Thursday, in Mumbai. Tiger Shroff's Heropanti 2 is getting positive reviews from Dubai.
Actors Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria's Heropanti 2 has hit theatres today. Ahead of the film's release, both the actors visited Mumbai Mahim Durgah and Babulnath Temple to seek blessings for their film's performance at the box office. Tiger and Tara also posed for shutterbugs here.
When asked why the film is called Runway 34, Ajay Devgn said in an interview with indianexpress.com, the actor explained complexities related to a certain runway at the airport and his character Captain Vikrant Khanna's decision to land the aircraft there. He said, “In an airport there are either one, two or three strips. On one runway you can land from both the sides, it is always the degree of the runway. it's angle is 340°, hence it is called Runway 34. In the whole film he (Ajay Devgn's character Captain Vikrant Khanna) chooses, makes the wrong decision to land on runway 34, which according to everyone is a wrong runway. It is the most dangerous, it is a disaster, nobody should be landing on that runway, but he chooses to do that and the whole film unfolds based on his decision. The whole film revolves around this runway 34.”
A high-flying pilot, in charge of a flight from Dubai to Kochi, has to bring all his vaunted expertise to bear in order to power through bad weather and worsening visibility. Is he successful? Is that even a question? The most effective disaster movies keep both stakes and suspense high, but in ‘Runway 34’, my heart was never in my mouth. In part because the real-life incident that the film is based on (a 2015 flight from Doha to Kochi had a successful trajectory), and in part because it has an invincible Bollywood hero at the helm. Nawazuddin Siddiqui spoke to indianexpress.com about how he chooses his roles, "What kind of work I do depends a lot on what phase I am going through in life, which kind of films are affecting me and which are the kind of films that I am enjoying. Just how you can’t keep doing films that affect you for too long, you can’t keep doing fun films for too long either. Then, I would like to get back to my zone of intense films."
Trade analyst Akshaye Rathi spoke about the box office openeing of Runway 34 and Herpanti 2 to indianexpress.com, "Between the two, Heropanti 2 will get a slightly bigger opening for the simple reason that it caters to a mass audience, while Runway 34 feels slightly urban, which will be appealing to the audience at multiplexes. However, the presence of superstars like Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan will give it a wider reach."
"Saw #Runway34 last night - Heart pumping aerial thriller meets courtroom drama. A big hug to my friend & brother @ajaydevgn
- so proud of what this man is capable of. The plane landing sequence twisted my insides in all possible directions. This actor-director is the BOMB!" actor Riteish Deshmukh wrote after watching Runway 34.

Besides, these are all family films and I have grown up watching family films. I don’t think about commerce and all. To me, it is about entertaining family audiences through my work."
While Heropanti 2 is a masala entertainer with typical action and song and dance sequences, Runway 34 looks more story-driven. And, this gives Heropanti 2 an edge over Runway 34, suggests film trade experts. “Between the two, Heropanti 2 will get a slightly bigger opening for the simple reason that it caters to a mass audience, while Runway 34 feels slightly urban, which will be appealing to the audience at multiplexes. However, the presence of superstars like Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan will give it a wider reach,” film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi told indianexpress.com. He said Heropanti 2 will earn somewhere around Rs 8-9 crore and Runway might start at Rs 5 crore.
