Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 206.65 points up at 17245.05 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Karda Const, Zee Learn, FutureLifestyleFash, Future Consumer and Future Retail, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 42 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 8 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, HUL, HDFC Life, SBI Life, UPL and Asian Paints were among top gainers during the day, while Bajaj Auto, Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, M&M and HCL Tech ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 701.67 points up at 57521.06.
Traders piled up positions in Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock, Airlines, FMCG, Telecommunications and Financial Services sectors, while selling was witnessed in Agro Processing, Tourism & Hospitality, Media & Entertainment, Learning & Education and Tyres sectors during the day.
