Meanwhile, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is likely to sell around 13,000 flats on a ‘first come, first served basis’ after the landowning agency could not sell them through a draw of lots in the recently concluded scheme, a senior DDA official said.

Police arrested one Noor Mohammad, who was arrested in another riots case and later rearrested based on his own disclosure statement for allegedly vandalising and setting a bakery on fire in Khajuri Khas on February 25, 2020.

Two men died after allegedly falling into a sewer pit in Outer Delhi’s Bawana area Wednesday morning. Officials said the men were working near the spot when the accident took place.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said they received a call around 11.25 am about the incident. DFS chief Atul Garg said, “It was a rescue call from Balaji Chowk. We were told that two men had fallen inside a sewer pit. We sent two fire tenders to the spot. The firemen pulled out the men and sent them to the Maharishi Valmiki Hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead.” Read More

At least eight students were injured after a lift collapsed at an engineering college in Ghaziabad Wednesday afternoon.
According to officials, the incident took place at the IMS campus situated in Lal Kuan. As per preliminary information, a cable attached to the lift snapped following which the elevator suffered a free fall.
Students sustained injuries on their heads and backs due to the impact and have been admitted in a nearby hospital. One of the students is being treated for a possible fracture, said officials. Read More
Plaques declaring Mohammadpur village as Madhavpuram were placed in the said village by local BJP councillor Bhagat Singh Tokas Wednesday.
Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta attended the event along with some locals to ‘rename’ the area.

As per primary information, a cable attached to the lift snapped following which the elevator had a free fall.
The students sustained injuries on their heads and backs due to the impact. They have been admitted in a nearby hospital. One of the students is being treated for a possible fracture, said officials.
Police and college officials are ascertaining the exact cause of elevator malfunction. The administration has called for a thorough examination of the cause and for action in case of negligence.
No complaint has been submitted to the police in connection with the incident yet, said officials.
While hearing the bail application of student activist Umar Khalid in the larger conspiracy case of northeast Delhi riots, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked whether it was proper to use the term ‘jumla’ in respect to the Prime Minister of India and said that there has to be “a line” or a “Lakshman rekha” when it comes to criticism of the government. After six days of Covid-19 infections in the Capital remaining stagnant at around 1,000, the numbers increased slightly to 1,204 as per Tuesday’s health bulletin. The increase could be owing to more number of tests conducted as the positivity rate, the proportion of samples tested that return positive, remained at 4.64 per cent.
There were 25,963 tests conducted as per Tuesday’s bulletin as compared to a daily average of 19,655 over the previous seven days. Read more
A day after a 30-year-old man was beaten to death during a brawl at a pub in Noida’s Gardens Galleria mall, the police arrested seven accused, including five restaurant employees, and are on the lookout for two more.
“Nine men are involved in the brawl-murder incident. We have arrested seven. One is unknown and the other is absconding. Five of the accused are restaurant staffers and the others are security guards from the mall. We found that the security personnel behaved rashly,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said. Read more

A massive fire broke out at Bhalswa landfill in northwest Delhi on Tuesday evening.
Weeks after the registrar of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) said the “scuffle” between students associated with Left bodies and the ABVP took place after some of them objected to the holding of a ‘havan’ on the occasion of Ram Navami, its vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit said the administration has “no idea what was the trigger” behind the clashes.
Registrar Ravikesh had said the clashes on the JNU campus earlier this month began after students objected to the havan inside one of the hostels on the occasion of Ram Naval. Members of the Left bodies alleged there were attempts to stop non-vegetarian food from being cooked and served in the Kaveri hostel mess and those associated with the right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad said some people tried to disrupt a Ram Navami puja in the same hostel.
