Coronavirus April 25 Live News: After months of steady decline in the number of daily infections, the sudden surge of Covid-19 cases has led to serious concerns, not just on a national level, but globally as well. We have seen the state governments in India swinging back to action with all sorts of precautionary measure like mandatory mask mandates etc. These states have also imposed a fine for those not donning the mask when outdoors.
Now, as per media reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states and union territories (UTs) to review the Covid situation in the country. The meeting will reportedly be held on April 27th virtually via video conferencing.
India’s daily Covid-19 tally has been rising for the past few weeks, stoking fears of a fourth Covid wave. The country on Monday recorded 2,541 new Covid-19 cases, as per the official data shared by the Ministry of Health on Monday morning. The country’s active cases rose to 16,522.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Monday announced free Covid vaccine booster shots for beneficiaries in the age group of 18 to 59 years, according to an official statement.

The number of coronavirus patients in home isolation in the national capital has seen an over six-fold increase from 447 on April 11 to 2,812 on April 24, according to official data. The number of patients admitted in hospitals also increased from 17 to 80 during the period. However, the Delhi government has assured people that despite the rise in cases, the hospitalisation rate has remained low. (PTI)
Amid fresh COVID-19 concerns in different parts of the country and apprehensions about a possible fourth wave of the pandemic, renowned cardiac surgeon Dr Devi Prasad Shetty on Monday said, there is no need to fear or have panic reactions and the concentration should be on number of hospitalisations and not the positivity. He advised people to continue to wear masks and maintain social distance. “Third wave was not that serious, so there is no need to fear or have panic reactions. We should only go by the number of patients admitted in hospital. One lakh people or 50,000 people getting positive does not mean anything,” Shetty said. (PTI)

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 12,87,998 on Monday as nine more people tested positive for the infection, the same as the previous day, a health bulletin said. The death toll remained unchanged at 9,124 as no fresh fatality was recorded for the fifth consecutive day. The state now has 84 active cases, while 12,78,737 people have recovered from the disease so far, including eight in the last 24 hours. Fifty-three coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities to date. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.05 per cent as 19,704 samples were tested for COVID-19, it added. (PTI)

The Mathura district administration on Monday directed temple authorities to ensure that devotees follow COVID-19 guidelines in the wake of rising cases in the neighbouring districts. A large number of devotees are coming to Mathura every day from the Delhi-NCR region. Their numbers reach thousands, especially during weekends, District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal said. In such a situation, it is very important to follow Covid appropriate behaviour like the use of masks and social distancing. Unvaccinated people threaten the safety of those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 even when the immunisation rates are high, according to a modelling study published on Monday. Researchers from the University of Toronto in Canada used a simple model to explore the effect of mixing between unvaccinated and vaccinated people to understand the dynamics of an infectious disease like SARS-CoV-2. The study, published in Canadian Medical Association Journal, found that the risk to vaccinated people was lower when unvaccinated mixed with unvaccinated.
However, when vaccinated and unvaccinated people mixed, a substantial number of new infections would occur in vaccinated people, even in scenarios where immunisation rates were high. (PTI)

Beijing on Monday began mass COVID-19 testing of over 3.5 million people in one of the city's high-profile districts following a spike in cases. Beijing's local government has ordered Chaoyang district, home to some 3.5 million residents, to have three rounds of mass nucleic acid testing starting from Monday after the district registered the most COVID-19 cases in the capital's latest epidemic surge, official media reported. Maharashtra's Thane district reported eight new Covid infections, taking its total tally to 7,08,973, an official told PTI on Monday. No fresh fatality was reported and the death toll in the district stood at 11,889.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the Covid-19 pandemic has taught Singapore valuable lessons “for which we have paid dearly”, lessons that must not go to waste. Speaking at an event on Sunday to mark 200 years since the establishment of Singapore General Hospital, Lee said Singapore “cannot thoughtlessly revert to the status quo ante” after the pandemic.
