Coronavirus April 25 Live News: After months of steady decline in the number of daily infections, the sudden surge of Covid-19 cases has led to serious concerns, not just on a national level, but globally as well. Now, as per media reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states and union territories (UTs) to review the Covid situation in the country. The meeting will reportedly be held on April 27th virtually via video conferencing.
India’s daily Covid-19 tally has been rising for the past few weeks, stoking fears of a fourth Covid wave. The country on Monday recorded 2,541 new Covid-19 cases, as per the official data shared by the Ministry of Health on Monday morning. The country’s active cases rose to 16,522.

The Mathura district administration on Monday directed temple authorities to ensure that devotees follow COVID-19 guidelines in the wake of rising cases in the neighbouring districts. A large number of devotees are coming to Mathura every day from the Delhi-NCR region. Their numbers reach thousands, especially during weekends, District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal said. In such a situation, it is very important to follow Covid appropriate behaviour like the use of masks and social distancing. Along with cleanliness in temples, sanitisation work should also be done regularly, he said. (PTI)
In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in some states of the country, the Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department has asked schools to suspend morning assembly, cultural programmes and sports activities, officials said on Monday. The School Education and Literacy department has issued a fresh COVID-19 guideline for schools in Jharkhand in light of rising COVID-19 cases in some states. (PTI)
Unvaccinated people threaten the safety of those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 even when the immunisation rates are high, according to a modelling study published on Monday. Researchers from the University of Toronto in Canada used a simple model to explore the effect of mixing between unvaccinated and vaccinated people to understand the dynamics of an infectious disease like SARS-CoV-2. The study, published in Canadian Medical Association Journal, found that the risk to vaccinated people was lower when unvaccinated mixed with unvaccinated.
However, when vaccinated and unvaccinated people mixed, a substantial number of new infections would occur in vaccinated people, even in scenarios where immunisation rates were high. (PTI)
The Philippines on Monday started giving second COVID-19 booster doses for immunocompromised adults, joining a growing number Asian countries offering a fourth vaccine shot. Mizoram on Monday recorded 107 new Covid-19 infections, taking the tally to 2,26,886, a health official said. The COVID-19 death toll rose to 695 as a 88-year-old woman from Mamit district succumbed to the infection on Monday, the official said. (PTI)
Beijing residents snapped up food and other supplies as the city's biggest district began mass testing of all residents on Monday, prompting fears of a Shanghai-style lockdown after dozens of COVID-19 cases in the capital in recent days. Authorities in Chaoyang, home to 3.45 million people, late on Sunday ordered residents and those who work there to be tested three times this week as Beijing warned the virus had “stealthily” spread in the city for about a week before being detected. Beijing on Monday began mass COVID-19 testing of over 3.5 million people in one of the city's high-profile districts following a spike in cases. Beijing's local government has ordered Chaoyang district, home to some 3.5 million residents, to have three rounds of mass nucleic acid testing starting from Monday after the district registered the most COVID-19 cases in the capital's latest epidemic surge, official media reported. Maharashtra's Thane district reported eight new Covid infections, taking its total tally to 7,08,973, an official told PTI on Monday. No fresh fatality was reported and the death toll in the district stood at 11,889.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the Covid-19 pandemic has taught Singapore valuable lessons “for which we have paid dearly”, lessons that must not go to waste. Speaking at an event on Sunday to mark 200 years since the establishment of Singapore General Hospital, Lee said Singapore “cannot thoughtlessly revert to the status quo ante” after the pandemic.
