Sri Lanka looks for foreign investors to stabilise currency
Sri Lanka is looking for investors that can bring in more than $2 billion into the central bank, Finance Minister Ali Sabry said. Sabry said that the next few months will be difficult for Sri Lankans, reports Xinhua news agency. "There is a need to attract investments in U.S. dollars into Sri Lanka's central bank," he said. The Minister said that the government is talking with several countries to get funds as soon as possible.

At least one miner dead, six trapped after tremor in Polish coal mine
One miner was confirmed dead after a tremor at the Borynia-Zofiowka coal mine in Poland, and rescuers are still trying to reach six more underground, mine owner JSW said. The tremor shook the mine in southern Poland on Saturday morning. There were 52 workers in the area, 42 got out on their own, and 10 remained underground.
Guterres to meet Erdogan ahead of mediation visits with Putin, Zelensky
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will be kicking off his mediation mission to end the Moscow-Kiev conflict with a visit to Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday ahead of his meetings with Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Volodymyr of Ukraine. In a brief note to correspondents on Saturday evening, the UN chief's spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that Guterres will be "received" by Erdogan in Ankara. Turkey has been the hub of diplomacy for Russia and Ukraine and consulting with Erdogan could help Guterres prepare for his meetings with Putin on Tuesday and with Zelensky on Thursday.
Active COVID-19 cases in country rise to 15,873
With 2,593 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,30,57,545, while the active cases increased to 15,873, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday. The death toll climbed to 5,22,193 with 44 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded as 98.75 per cent, the ministry said. An increase of 794 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

China reports 1,566 new local COVID-19 cases
The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 1,566 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 1,401 were in Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission's report Sunday. China's financial hub, Shanghai, has been facing the worst COVID-19 outbreak and has been desperately seeking medical care and basic supplies like food.

Oil facility damaged during clashes in western Libyan town
Clashes between government-allied militias in western Libya caused damage to a sprawling oil facility, the state-run oil company said Saturday, the latest blow to the energy sector in the chaos-stricken Mediterranean nation. The fighting erupted Friday in the coastal town of Zawiya between two rival militias allied with the government of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, which is based in the capital of Tripoli. The National Oil Corp. said the fighting damaged at least 29 sites, including storage tanks, at the Zawiya refinery complex. It said an assessment was continuing to determine the extent of the damage. The refinery is a major source of domestic fuel raising fears of an energy crisis amid the heat of the summer.

Turkey's top diplomat says Ankara has closed the Turkish airspace to Russian civilian and military flights between Russia and Syria. Mevlut Cavusoglu told a group of Turkish journalists during a visit to Uruguay that Russia had permission to use the Turkish airspace for flights to Syria until April. But Haberturk television reported that Cavusoglu said Saturday that he asked Moscow to stop using the airspace during a visit there in March, and that Moscow agreed to the Turkish request.
Russians try to storm Mariupol plant, strike Odesa

Explosion at illegal oil refinery in Nigeria kills over 50
More than 50 people have been killed and many wounded in southeast Nigeria in an explosion that rocked an illegal oil refinery, state officials and the police said Saturday. The death toll may be more than 100, according to a report in the Lagos-based Punch newspaper. The fire is reported to have spread to nearby properties.
