
Delhi News: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday visited the Delhi government’s School of Specialised Excellence. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Raghav Chadha and Atishi Marlena were also present. Mann is currently visiting the national capital to see schools and health institutions set up by the state government.
Meanwhile, a week after communal clashes broke out in Northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, residents held a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ on Sunday evening in a show of solidarity between communities. While personnel remained deployed in the area, police removed many of the barricades and scaled down security arrangements during the day. Tricolour in hand, residents shouted slogans such as ‘Hindu Musalman Bhai Bhai’, ‘Hindustan Zindabad,” appealed for peace and harmony and said this was the first step towards “normalcy” in the area.
Delhi on Sunday reported 1,083 fresh Covid-19 cases and a positivity rate of 4.48 per cent, while one person, according to the health department. The Covid-19 spike in the capital at least for the time being. There were around 1,000 cases recorded in Delhi over the last 5 days and the positivity rate has also remained between 4.6 and 4.8 per cent.

Delhi is likely to record a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast. The possibility of thunder and lightning is also on the forecast on account of a western disturbance.
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has denied bail to Jamia Millia Islamia professor Khalid Moin, who is accused of taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for issuing a structural safety certificate for a project at Botanical Garden in Noida.
Special judge Shailender Mailk rejected Moin’s bail saying that in his mind “a public servant possessing so much of cash amount and receiving bribe amount clearly indicate the gravity of the offence”. The judge noted that there was a telephonic conversation showing that Moin demanded money from his co-accused as well as a necessary fee to be deposited at the university.
Starting Monday, the district authorities in Delhi will begin to strictly enforce rules pertaining to mask usage and Covid protocol, officials said. Around 88 teams will be deployed across the city to monitor the same.
According to officials, each district has decided to deploy eight teams, including four civil defence volunteers and one SDM or authorised staff member from the district magistrate’s office, to issue challans of Rs 500 for not wearing masks.
Following an uptick in Covid-19 cases, last week the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) once again made it mandatory to wear masks and re-imposed the Rs 500 fine for violators. “We started preparations soon after obtaining the DDMA order and alerted the district surveillance team to keep a close check on the increasing number of Covid cases, contact tracing and to contain the houses with positive cases. Further, we have also sought to hire civil defence volunteers whose services were discontinued in the first week of April following the decrease in Covid cases,” said a senior district official.
A vendor has no right to occupy the place of vending and keep his articles there round the clock, and they should leave with all belongings after vending hours are over, the Delhi High Court has said.
A bench of acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi, dealing with an application by a set of street vendors from the Okhla Industrial Area seeking to be made parties to the proceedings concerning the removal of encroachment there, said a certificate of vending only entitles the street vendor to vend in terms of the conditions on which the licence is granted and they can therefore use the allotted site only during the hours provided for in the vending licence.
The temperature is predicted to increase in Delhi but a heatwave is not likely in the capital until Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said on Sunday. The Safdarjung Observatory -- Delhi's base station -- recorded a maximum temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, two notches below normal for this time of the year.
The mercury is predicted to breach the 40-degree mark on Monday amid clear skies and gradually rise to 44 degrees Celsius by Thursday. The IMD predicted the maximum temperature may increase by three to five degrees Celsius in most parts of northwest India during the next five days.

The AAP on Sunday took out foot marches at various locations in the city against the BJP's "bulldozer politics", and asked people to not get "intimidated and threatened" by the saffron party's "gunda raj and corruption". It also told the people that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party will firmly stand by them and would not let the BJP-ruled civic bodies run bulldozer over their property.
Deputy Chief Manish Sisodia Sunday inaugurated the much delayed Ashram Underpass and said it is expected to cut 6.2 carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and 1550 litres of fuel per day. 'Now, the commuting between Delhi- NCR, Faridabad, Badarpur will be smooth and the residents of Jangpura and Kalkaji will be largely benefitted. Not only this the 450 metre long underpass between Bhogal to New Friends Colony will also help the commuters save fuel and hours of time,' said Sisodia.
The construction work on the Ashram underpass was started in 2019 and was scheduled to be completed by End of December 2020. But, the project was delayed and missed atleast 8 deadlines due to covid and various other reasons.
A week after communal violence broke out in Northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, and three days after a demolition drive was carried out in the area, residents are trying to return to their regular lives and businesses amid heavy deployment of police and CRPF personnel.
Sheikh Sabdar, who runs a small grocery store in one of the bylanes of C block, pointed to a gate near his store that opens out onto the main road. “The gate has been shut all these days, ever since the incident a week ago. It was opened today. I have been opening the store over the past week, but a little later than usual and not too early in the morning,” he said.
With 1,094 cases on Saturday, the Covid-19 trajectory in the capital seems to have stagnated, at least for the time being.
There were around 1,000 cases recorded in Delhi over the last four days, as per the daily health bulletin shared by the government. The positivity rate – proportion of samples tested that return positive, which is indicative of the spread of the infection in a geographical area – has also remained between 4.6 and 4.8% over the last three days, when the daily tests went up and averages at the current 21,890.
A Delhi court sent five men booked under the National Security Act (NSA), in connection with the communal clashes which took place in Jahangirpuri, to police custody for eight days.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Satvir Singh Lamba sent accused Ansar, Salim, Ahir, Dilshad and Sonu to eight-day custodial interrogation after police told the court that remand is required to confront all co-accused persons with each other to link the chain of the incident and to ascertain the role of each accused person properly.
Delhi on Saturday reported 1,094 fresh Covid-19 cases at a positivity rate of 4.82 per cent; and two deaths. With today’s addition, the accumulative caseload rose to 18,73,793 and the toll to 26,166. The number of active cases stood at 3,705. The capital had recorded 1,042 cases at a positivity rate of 4.64 per cent, and two deaths on Friday.
Heatwave conditions are likely to return to Delhi next week when the maximum temperature could rise to 44 degrees Celsius on April 28 and 29, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.
