Peace needs to be our state of mind, but self-Peace takes a while lot of effort.
Being the evolved generation we are, we all know some of the many steps that we need to take to truly embrace peace…here are some that can also help us make peace mentally, physically, and organically:
Breathe in and breathe out…
The simple act of observing our breath work and doing the same mindfully is a simple yet effective method of making peace. How many times have we heard that when angry, count till 10; not only does this breathing systematically calm the physical, but research also shows that this technique helps release harmful toxins as we breathe out! When looking to immediately and naturally embrace the present and get to a more peaceful zone, there is nothing like slowing down the breathing and taking it one breathe at a time.
R is for Regrets and R is for Rejuvenate & Refresh…
Being human is having regrets and the I-wish-I-had-done-this-instead moments. Here is something worth trying- Had we not done what we did, or had we not gone through what we did, we wouldn’t have been our wiser present selves.
Let’s embrace the soul journey, and rejuvenate from our regrets as wiser, and all-knowing individuals. I know this is easier said than done, but trust me, it will always be worth the effort to overcome regrets and convert them into learnings.
A spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down…
We all have bitterness and tragedies in life and that truly is the drama of life. To then make peace with these life happenings, we first need to bounce back from that deep bout of gloominess. The quickest and surest way possible is indulge in ‘laughter therapy’, your spoon full of natural and organic sugar.
Research shows how our hormones immediately change the minute we start laughing; Laughter releases endorphins and other feel-good hormones e.g. dopamine and serotonin in us, and simultaneously also suppresses the stress hormones e.g. cortisol!
You can pull out your favorite show, go back to that stand up comedy that always cracks you up, call up that fun friend or choose any other stimulus to tickle your funny bone. Most naturally and organically, you would have now gotten rid of that feeling of impending doom, and are now a tad more relaxed mentally. Only a while after this, and only when you are up to it, you can get down to dealing with the unpleasant incident tragedy and eventually also start making peace with it… after all, c'est la vie.
Gratitude is the greatest…
Making peace can start with giving gratitude for the good and the bad. Practicing gratitude makes us look for the good in everything. Especially in ridiculous situations where you are forced to search for the good, you will notice how we suddenly start seeing the incident in a 360-degree light; we may very well even learn to find something worthwhile in it. Giving gratitude is simple, doesn’t cost us anything and, should be a natural extension of our daily lives.
Spring clean the carpet…
A last technique which especially works well when trying to make peace is spring cleaning that carpet. We all tend to sweep the unwanted under the carpet, may it be emotions or doings; it is almost like housing an alter ego under there! It is always a good time to get down to dealing with that very stuff, one by one… be brave.
Be brave, and be there for yourself. Be brave, and if needed, get help too. Mental health is that lovely soul energy inside us that we all need to look after, cater to, and adorn.
The carpet and us have a limit to the number of things we can pretend didn’t happen or didn’t bother us, and after a point the alter ego can become the primary protagonist of your life. Get your sweep on, start with the smaller things and let them go one by one as you learn to make peace with them.
Life is the sum total of all our experiences, both good and bad… we all need to embrace the good and let the bad go, but only after we talk to bad and hug them goodbye.
