LOS ANGELES: "The Power of The Dog" star Benedict Cumberbatch will host "Saturday Night Live", the long-running sketch series, on May 7. Cumberbatch's appearance on "SNL" will come a day after his Marvel Studios movie "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" hits the screens on May 6.

This will be two-time Oscar-nominated actor's second hosting gig after he made his debut back in November 2016, reported Deadline.

For the episode, the British star will collaborate with indie rock band Arcade Fire who will take the "SNL" stage as musical guest.

Cumberbatch was recently nominated for a best actor in a leading role Academy Award for his performance in Jane Campion's "The Power of The Dog".

The upcoming episode of "SNL" will mark Arcade Fire's fifth appearance as musical guest, following stints in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2018.

The Academy's aim this year was to end the ceremony on a feel-good note by naming 'CODA' in the Best Picture category. The deaf family drama, which got its first premiere at a virtual Sundance Film Festival in 2021, started its journey as an underdog, but earned its place as an Oscar-favourite for the top award.

Sian Heder also won the Best Adapted Screenplay Award.

Slapstick Drama

The Will Smith-Chris Rock drama caught everyone's attention. A joke, followed by an angry slap, was the most-discussed topic at the ceremony.

But, let's keep it for another time. Smith, who played the character of Venus and Serena Williams' father in 'King Richard', took home his first Oscar by bagging the Best Actor award.

The actor was in tears and shared an emotional acceptance speech, later apologising to the Academy and his fellow nominees.

Actress Jessica Chastain was the front-runner for the Best Actress award, and the Oscars didn't disappoint. This was her first Oscar for portraying the empathetic televangelist Tammy Faye in 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye'. She also produced the movie.
