Lt Gen Manoj Pandey has been appointed as the new Army Chief of the country. On April 30, Lieutenant General Manoj Pandey will be given the command of the Indian Army.
Current Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane is retiring at the end of this month. After Manoj Mukund Naravane, Lieutenant General Manoj Pandey is the senior most officer in the army. Therefore, he will function in the office from May 1.
Achievements Of Pandey:
》In his military career spanning 39 years, Lt Gen Manoj Pandey has commanded an engineer brigade in the western theatre, an infantry brigade on the LOC, a mountain division in the Ladakh sector and a corps in the North-East.
》Prior to taking over as the Eastern Command, he held the charge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command from June 2020 to May 2021.
》He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and served as the Chief of Staff of the Southern Command.
》In 2018, he took command of the IV Corps of Tezpur from Lt. Gen. Gurpal Singh Sangha.
》After about a year-and-a-half, he moved to Army HQ and was appointed Director-General and dealt with subjects of Discipline, Ceremonial and Welfare.
Hence after the tragic accident of CDS Gen Vipin Rawat, now General MM Naravane is being considered as the most eligible contender for the post of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS).
