Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 0.44%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Monday.

Shares of Maruti Suzuki(up 1.39 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra(up 0.92 per cent), TVS Motor Company(up 0.92 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 0.78 per cent) and Tata Motors(up 0.64 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, TIINDIA(down 5.35 per cent), MRF(down 0.74 per cent), Bharat Forge(down 0.63 per cent), Balkrishna Industries(down 0.53 per cent) and Ashok Leyland(down 0.04 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.44 per cent up at 10745.75.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 302.0 points at 17173.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 1172.19 points at 57166.74.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 24 ended in the green, while 26 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Tata Power, NTPC and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Sunflag Iron, Pearl Polymers, Magadh Sugar Energy, Premier Poly and Bang Overseas hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while OrissaBengalCarrier, Debock Sales & Mktg, Ritco Logistics and McDowell Hold hit their fresh 52-week lows.
