Indraprastha Gas Limited hiked the price of CNG in Delhi to Rs 71.61 per kg from Thursday. For Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, the price of CNG has increased to Rs 74.17 per kg, while in Gurugram, it will cost Rs 79.94 per kg, ANI reported.
A Delhi court has acquitted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain in a case of allegedly defacing public property by putting up a board wishing people a Happy New Year in 2015.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Arun Kumar Garg granted the relief to the politician, saying there was no evidence produced by the prosecution to prove that the board/hoarding was either installed by the accused or that the same was installed at his instance or for his benefit.
“In fact, the IO (investigating officer) has failed to point out in the charge sheet as to how he had pinned down the name of the accused as the installer of the board, in as much as, he has neither recorded the statement of residents of the locality where the board in question was found affixed by the police nor has he recorded the statement of the printer,” the judge said in the order passed on Wednesday. The AAP government has allocated Rs 476.89 crore for the development of various mandis in the capital, including over Rs 175 crores for Aazadpur market, Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai said on Thursday.
Orders were also issued for the installation of CCTV cameras at all mandis in the capital, he said. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Rai with senior officials, including those from the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB) and the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC). Rai said the DAMB has approved a budget of Rs 476.89 crore for the development of mandis in the capital.
He said of the total budget, Rs 178.73 crore has been kept for the development of Azadpur Mandi and renovation of Kisan Bhawan so that farmers can get temporary accommodation there. (PTI)
Thirteen people were injured following a cylinder blast inside an eatery near Jamia Millia Islamia in southeast Delhi on Thursday, Delhi Fire officials said.
A call about the fire was received at 3.49 pm and three fire tender were rushed to the spot, said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service.
All those who got injuries were taken to a nearby hospital, he said. The fire was later extinguished, he added. (PTI)
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann and his staff will visit Delhi government schools on Monday to see the "remarkable improvement" the Aam Aadmi Party regime has brought in them.
His remarks came days after opposition parties alleged that the Punjab government was being run through "remote control" from Delhi after Kejriwal held a meeting in the national capital with the state's top bureaucrats in the absence of Mann.
Addressing an event at the Thyagaraj Stadium here to celebrate Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar's birth anniversary, Kejriwal said his government has improved government schools to such an extent that people from across the globe are coming to see these "remarkable changes". (PTI)
BJP President JP Nadda Thursday inaugurated the party's newly constructed office in Gurgaon, in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Speaking on the occasion, Manohar Lal Khattar said: "There are some leaders these days who have started a 'sit-down' policy and promise everything free... Delhi was different, this will not work in Punjab. This politics of freebies will not work. First, you give freebies and then go to the Centre with a bowl...this double game will not work."
While addressing the gathering, JP Nadda said: "BJP is the only party that is national. All other parties are regional or family-run. Indian National Congress is now neither Indian nor national. That party is limited to two states now. Ye bhai-behen ki party ho gyi hai.”
At least 1,000 local BJP leaders in Himachal Pradesh will join the AAP soon and several big guns in the poll-bound state are also ‘in touch’ with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Thursday.
Claiming that defections will leave the ruling party “scattered” in Himachal Pradesh, Sisodia asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will form its government winning assembly elections to be held later this year in the hill state.

Private schools in Delhi have been directed to shut down a wing or the entire premises if cases are reported among staff and students. This advisory from the Directorate of Education (DoE) comes on the heels of a rise in positivity rate in the city and reports of students testing positive.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia Thursday said the government will come out with a common set of guidelines for schools to follow if cases are detected among students.
“We are keeping track of all cases in schools and have been giving individual directions to schools where cases have emerged. For the next two-three days, schools have holidays, so I have asked the education department to come out with a common set of guidelines for all schools under the new framework. This should be ready by tomorrow… There is no big outbreak as of now. We are seeing one-two cases in schools. In some cases, it is a student, in others, teachers are testing positive for Covid,” he said. Read more
All Schools of Specialised Excellence (SoSE) in Delhi will be named after Dr B R Ambedkar, announced Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while paying tribute to him on Ambedkar Jayanti.

In view of the uptick in Covid cases in the national capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will hold a meeting on April 20 to discuss measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the city, officials said on Thursday.
Delhi on Wednesday reported 299 Covid cases, a jump of 118 per cent in two days. The positivity rate stood at 2.49 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department. The city had recorded 137 cases on Monday, the data showed.
"The Delhi Disaster Management Authority's meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesday next week under the chairmanship of the Lt Governor. It will discuss the prevailing Covid situation, including the recent rise in the number of cases," a senior Delhi government official said. (PTI)

A student was injured after a portion of the bathroom ceiling collapsed at a hostel in Jawaharlal Nehru University here on Thursday morning, officials said. The incident took place at the Sabarmati Hostel.
Hours after the incident, the university said it had received Rs 56.34 crore for hostel repairs. (PTI)
The police have arrested three people who allegedly shot dead a man whose family members beat one of them a few weeks ago, officials said on Thursday.
On April 10, Mohd Rashid (43), Deepak (32) and Rohit (22) with firearms and lathis reached a meat shop run by Rahul in Sangam Vihar and beat up his uncle Hukum Singh as well as the workers, a police official said. Rohit and Deepak opened fire, killing Hukum Singh while their main target Rahul escaped unhurt, the officer said.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said, "On Wednesday, Inspector Ishwar Singh received information that Rashid and Deepak would come near Khanpur traffic signal on MB Road between 9 pm to 10 pm to meet their associate. (PTI)
Maintaining social distancing and wearing masks diligently prevented of eight out of 10 families in India from getting infected with Covid, a new survey has claimed.
The survey, conducted by LocalCircles, received over 29,000 responses from citizens across 345 districts of India. LocalCircles claimed that the survey showed 57 percent of Indian families had one or more individuals testing Covid positive in the last two years.
It said the objective of this survey was to understand what works and create awareness among the larger citizenry and also quantify the role of masking, social distancing and ensuring air ventilation inside indoor spaces in the last two years during the Covid pandemic. (PTI)
A 25-year-old woman allegedly attempted to kill herself by jumping off a building at Delhi Metro’s Akshardham station Thursday morning but was saved by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on the ground.
A video of the incident shows the CISF staff persuading the woman to move back after noticing her at the edge of the terrace.
She waited for a while before jumping off the terrace but fell on the blanket the CISF and Metro staff had arranged by then and escaped with minor injuries, said officials. Read more

The Delhi government will soon issue guidelines for schools in view of the slight rise in Covid cases, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Thursday. His comments came amid reports of some school students testing positive for the virus in Delhi as well as the National Capital Region (NCR).
" Covid cases have slightly increased but there is no rise in hospitalisation, so we need not worry. There is no need to panic but stay alert. We have to learn to live with Covid. We are constantly monitoring the situation," Sisodia told reporters.
"I have got reports from a few schools in the past few days where parents have informed about their child testing positive. The education department will tomorrow issue guidelines to schools in this regard," he added. (PTI)

No specific words against any community were uttered during an event held in New Delhi in December last year, the Delhi Police has told the Supreme Court which is hearing a plea seeking direction to ensure investigation and action against those who allegedly made hate speeches during two events held in Haridwar and Delhi.
In a counter affidavit filed in the apex court, the Delhi Police has said the petitioners had not approached them for taking any action in connection with the alleged incident and have directly moved the top court and such a practice must be deprecated.
The top court is hearing a petition filed by journalist Qurban Ali and former Patna High Court judge and senior advocate Anjana Prakash, who have also sought a direction for an “independent, credible and impartial investigation” by an SIT into the incidents of hate speeches against the Muslim community.
