    Covid India News Live Updates: India reports 1,088 fresh cases, 1081 recoveries, and 26 deaths in the last 24 hours

    The Union Health Ministry said that 1081 recoveries and 26 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate is at 0.25% while active COVID cases stand at 10,870.

    The active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent, the ministry said. A reduction of 19 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

    The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.25 per cent and the weekly positivity rate as 0.24 per cent, according to the ministry.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,25,05,410, while the case fatality rate was recorded as 1.21 per cent.

    The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 186.07 crore.

    New York Police identify 'person of interest' in subway shooting

    Parliament panel to examine Bill proposing marriage age change today

    The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports would examine the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill in its first meeting today. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session. The committee chaired by the BJP MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe in its first meeting will hear the members of the Jaya Jaitley committee, who will depose on Wednesday. The panel is now required to submit its report by June 24 this year.

    The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021 proposes to amend the existing law to bring parity at the minimum marriageable age for men and women. The Bill proposes raising the minimum age for marriage for women from 18 to 21. The Bill will also affect laws relating to the age of marriage -- 'The Indian Christian Marriage Act, 1872'; 'The Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1936'; 'The Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937'; 'The Special Marriage Act, 1954'; 'The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955'; and 'The Foreign Marriage Act, 1969', besides 'The Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956'; and 'Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956'.

    NYPD locates van sought in Brooklyn shooting

    Police found an unoccupied U-Haul van in Brooklyn matching the description and license plate number of the vehicle being sought in connection with Tuesday's shooting on a rush-hour subway train, a law enforcement official said.
