Param Bir Singh (File) The CBI has officially taken over the five criminal cases registered by the Maharashtra Police against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. The development follows Supreme Court’s March 24 order wherein it transferred the investigation against Singh to the CBI even as it put all departmental proceedings against him on hold. The Maharashtra government had opposed the move though.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray Wednesday visited Mantralaya for the first time in 2022 after his surgery in November 2021. Mantralaya is the administrative headquarters of the Maharashtra government and is located in south Mumbai. Thackeray has been at the receiving end from various political parties for not attending office.

Centre should have objected to Antony Blinken’s remark on ‘rights abuses’ in India: Sharad Pawar
NCP chief Sharad Pawar Wednesday said that the Union government should have raised objection to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s remark on ‘rise in rights abuses’ in India.
“The statement made by the US in front of our ministers that there is severe violation of human rights in India is detrimental for the country. When the heads of two countries were having a discussion, this issue should have been raised by India and our dissent towards this statement should have been expressed,” Pawar said.
Sharad Pawar residence ‘attack’: Journalist arrested in Pune
The police have arrested a journalist in Pune in connection to the recent protest outside NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s Silver Oak residence in Mumbai. So far, the Mumbai police have arrested 115 persons in the case, of which nine persons including advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte are in police custody and will be produced in a Girgaon court Wednesday afternoon.
Mumbai: BMC to launch special drive to remove concrete structures around trees
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will launch a special drive to remove concrete structures around tree bases, said officials of the civic body. Banners, nails and cables hung from trees will also be removed during the drive, they added.
Officials from the Gardens department of the BMC informed that the drive will be carried out between April 18 and 23 under the ‘Vruksh Sanjeevni Muhim’ initiative. Apart from civic staff, various NGOs, schools and colleges will also participate in the drive.
Mumbai: No new Covid-19 case in Dharavi since March 24, shows BMC data
Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum and a major Covid hotspot in Mumbai, has no active case of the virus since March 24, showed data collated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The data also shows that the G/North Ward, which covers Dharavi, Dadar and Mahim areas, has only one active case of the virus in home isolation.
Confusion among students over Mumbai varsity’s circular on examination timetable
A Mumbai University circular on timetable caused confusion among students appearing for the second semester exam in varied courses run in affiliated colleges.
The circular asked colleges to hold the examinations from May 11. However, individual colleges have issued separate timetables for the exam. After students raised the issue, the university stated that colleges have the liberty to decide on the process.
“The circular clearly states that semester II exams should be held offline and should start from May 11. But my college is starting the exam from April 18,” said a student from Dadar College. Another student from Santacruz College said the exam is starting on April 23.
Mumbai: Man who stole mobile phones on express trains arrested, nine devices recovered
The Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) has traced and arrested a 25-year-old man from Akola district, who used to steal mobile phones from passengers traveling on express trains. The police recovered nine smartphones, including one that was stolen in 2018 and four that were taken in 2019.
The complainant in the case was traveling to Pune from the Kalyan railway station by Indrayani Express Train at around 6.30 am on March 17. When he was getting into the train, a thief stole his phone. The next day, the passenger approached the Kalyan GRP and lodged a theft case.
Acting on a tip off received by woman police inspector Archana Dusane, who said the would be at the Kalyan railway station to steal more phones, a trap was laid on April 5 and the accused Shubham Sanap, 25, was arrested. Sanap works as a bricklayer.
