Two foreign militants responsible for the recent attack on the personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in a gunfight with security forces in a congested area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar Sunday, the police said.
While one militant was killed in the initial exchange of fire, the second was killed after two hours. The police are yet to identify the slain militants but said the men belonged to Pakistan. “02 #Pakistani #terrorists who were involved in recent #terror attack on CRPF Personnel, neutralised in #Srinagar #Encounter. Arms & ammunition, other incriminating materials recovered,” the J-K Police said in a tweet quoting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar.

A joint team of J-K Police and CRPF cordoned off the Bishamber Nagar-Dalgate neighbourhood of Srinagar on Sunday morning after inputs about the presence of militants in the area. As the joint team of the security forces were zeroing in on the house, the militants hiding inside opened fire and tried to break the security cordon. The joint team returned the fire leading to an encounter.
The police said that the militants were responsible for the attack on the CRPF on Tuesday. A CRPF soldier was killed and another injured when the militants shot them from point-blank range in the Maisuma neighbourhood of Srinagar.
This is the third Pakistani militant killed in Srinagar in a month hinting that the foreign militants have started moving towards the capital city of the Union Territory that they usually avoided. On March 11, a Pakistani militant was killed in a brief shootout in Hazatbal.
The Kashmir Valley has seen a sudden increase in violence. While the police, paramilitary, and the Indian Army have intensified their operations against the militants, the militants too have launched a series of attacks on security forces and migrants workers in the Valley.
