Delhi Live News: The Delhi Police Monday registered an FIR against several unidentified ABVP students a day after multiple students were injured in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) following the violence allegedly over students eating non-veg. A complaint was filed by members of the  JNUSU, SFI, DSF and AISA, a Delhi Police official told The Indian Express, while students belonging to the ABVP have also informed that they will be also giving their complaint Monday.

Some students were injured in a scuffle that broke out on the JNU campus on Sunday evening. On the other hand, the ABVP claimed that ‘Left’ students had tried to disrupt a Ram Navmi pooja which was being conducted in the hostel in the late afternoon.

Two fires broke out in the national capital in the last 24 hours. One at a banquet hall in Outer Delhi’s Peeragarhi Chowk Sunday morning and another fire at the Ghazipur landfill late on Saturday night. No causalities have been reported in both instances.

☀️Heatwave to persist in Delhi, maximum temperature around 41°C

Heatwave conditions remain in the forecast for Delhi on Monday, with a maximum temperature of around 41 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday at the Safdarjung weather observatory was 41.8 degrees Celsius, six degrees above the normal for this time of the year.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the intensity of heatwaves across the plains of northwest India could reduce from the night of April 12 on account of a western disturbance that is likely to affect parts of the western Himalayan region. Consequently, maximum temperatures are very likely to fall by two to three degrees over many parts of northwest India from April 12, the IMD forecast indicates.

The forecast for Delhi shows that the maximum temperature could drop marginally to 39 degrees on April 13 and 14, before climbing back up to about 41 degrees by April 17. The minimum temperature over the next six days is likely to range from 21 to 23 degrees Celsius. Heatwave conditions remain on the forecast for Tuesday, and clear skies are likely for the rest of the week.

Signature Bridge ‘bird’s eye’ project runs into hurdles

A view of the city from atop the Signature Bridge will have to wait longer owing to safety concerns. According to sources, the Delhi labour department has denied permission to the tourism department to operate the inclined elevator/lifts installed to take the tourists to the viewing gallery set up atop the pylon of the bridge.

“The tourism department placed several merits of the project, on how we can improve it and operate the lifts for the public, before the labour department several times but permission has been denied citing public safety,” said a source.

As per officials associated with the project, four lifts have been installed at the foot of the bow-shaped pylon of the bridge. These four lifts are inclined — two of them are slanted at an angle of 60 degrees and two at 80 degrees. “The project is delayed from the government’s end because of these concerns. The government may have to do away with this project altogether,” said a source from Delhi Tourism department.

A study on air pollution in Delhi during the second Covid wave and the consequent lockdown last year found an “unusual surge in PM10 and PM 2.5 levels” during the lockdown, when most activities were curtailed. The team that conducted the study comprised Gufran Beig, founder project director, SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research); K S Jayachandran, member secretary, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC); M P George, scientist, DPCC; Aditi Rathod, S B Sobhana and R Shinde, from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune; V Jindal from the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi; S K Sahu from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
