It promises to be a battle on each other's turf. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is all set to launch a mega protest in New Delhi on Monday against the Centre's decision to not procure paddy from the state.

The BJP, on its part, is preparing to hold a Janadesh yatra (rally) from April 14 in the state as it works to increase its footprint. Top Union ministers, including home minister Amit Shah, are expected to participate in the rally.

The 31-day yatra will "consolidate the sentiment against the mis-governance of the TRS government and its failures to help farmers," said Tarun Chugh, general-secretary of the BJP in charge of Telangana.

"Our ministers and leaders will visit the State and tell people how their CM has failed on his promises," Chugh told ET.

The flurry of protests by both TRS and BJP come ahead of Assembly elections slated for next year.

The BJP has started organising district-wise meetings of farmers to apprise them of TRS' unkept promises, said Nizamabad BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri.

"The centre's procurement from Telangana has increased manifold in the last seven years, so there is no question of discrimination," he said. "Instead of investing in agri-based industries like other States have done to address excess production, and finding a solution for the grievances of farmers, they are misleading farmers," Dharmapuri added.

On Monday, the entire Telangana Cabinet and its 107 TRS MLAs will hold a protest at Telangana Bhawan in Delhi, on the issue of alleged discrimination against the state in paddy procurement.

Chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR)'s son and Cabinet minister KT Rama Rao and daughter and TRS member of the Legislative Council Kavitha Kalvakuntla will lead the protest.
