(Express Photo by Ganesh Shirsekhar) Anil Deshmukh, the former Maharashtra home minister, approached the Bombay High Court against the order of a special court allowing the CBI to take his custody. Deshmukh along with Sanjeev Palande and Kundan Shinde are currently in judicial custody after their arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case. The arrests came after former Mumbai police commissioner, Parambir Singh, allegedly said that Deshmukh had asked him to select police officers and set the target of collecting Rs. 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars in the city.

Meanwhile, the office of the inspector general of registration (IGR) has indicted 44 personnel allegedly for carrying out the registration of over 10,000 properties violating the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) Act. This step was a result of the Maharashtra government’s complaint to IGR officials over the registration documents of properties.

The ED moved against two prominent opposition leaders on Tuesday, provisionally attaching assets worth Rs 115 crore linked to three people in Mumbai, including the wife of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, and, in a separate move, assets worth Rs 4.81 crore of companies allegedly linked to AAP leader and Delhi minister Satyendra Jain and his relatives.
Mumbai: Two arrested for last month’s robbery at senior citizen’s house
THE NAGPADA police have arrested two persons for allegedly barging into the house of a senior citizen couple in the early hours of March 19 and robbing them of cash and ornaments worth Rs 88.53 lakh. The police said the two accused, both former employees, tied the couple’s hands, legs and with two of their house helps asleep in neighbouring rooms, the duo walked away with Rs 25 lakh in cash, diamond and gold jewellery.
According to the police, the two arrested persons were Takatsingh Narsingh Rajput (22) and Dilip Karansingh Rajput (21) and they hail from Gujarat and Rajasthan respectively.
The police said Takatsingh left his caretaker’s job with the couple at the end of February while Dilip had previously worked as a driver with them.
Mumbai fully vaccinates 100% adult population against Covid-19, first major city to achieve feat
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has announced that all eligible beneficiaries above the age of 18 in Mumbai have been fully vaccinated with two doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Mumbai has thus become the first major city in the country to fully vaccinate 100% of its citizens. It also has the highest vaccination coverage among all the 36 districts in Maharashtra.
By Tuesday, Mumbai vaccinated its entire adult population of 92.39 lakh people with two doses of Covid-19 vaccine, confirmed officials.
Mumbai cops arrest suspended IPS officer Saurabh Tripathi’s brother-in-law in angadia extortion case
A Mumbai crime branch team probing the angadia (traditional couriers) extortion case has arrested assistant sales tax commissioner Ashutosh Mishra, brother-in-law of suspended IPS officer Saurabh Tripathi, from Basti in Uttar Pradesh, a police official said on Wednesday.
During the investigation, the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) found that Mishra had received the money allegedly extorted by DCP Tripathi, who is posted in Mumbai, he said. The CIU team apprehend Mishra, an Assistant Commissioner of Sales Tax, from Basti Tuesday, the official said. Mishra was produced before a court in Basti which granted his transit remand to the Mumbai Police, he said.
Angadias are traditional couriers who deliver cash sent by traders from one state to another. Angadia system is by and large used in the jewellery business. A complaint filed last December by the Angadia Association in south Mumbai had alleged that Tripathi demanded Rs 10 lakh per month from them as a bribe to allow them to run their business smoothly.
