Ballia Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Neeraj Pandey said that in the viral video, Sakul Prajapati (58), a resident of Andaur village in Chilkhar block, is seen carrying his ailing wife Jogni (55) to the hospital on a cart. The incident took place on March 28.
The woman had diabetes and complained of pain in her legs in the morning on March 28 following which, the man took her to a nearby community health centre on a hand cart covering a distance of three-four kilometre. He said he didn’t call an ambulance as he thought it only comes in cases of emergencies. “From the health centre, he took her to the district hospital after she was referred by the doctors. For this, he hired an autorickshaw,” said Pandey.
“On the same night, the woman died during treatment, and as per the man, he had to hire a private van to take her body back to the village. He said he had asked some persons at the hospital if he could get an ambulance or a vehicle to carry the body back but he got no help. We are finding out if he spoke to an official or a private person at the hospital. He is also not sure whom he spoke to,” added Pandey.
