    COVID-19 cases in China's largest city of Shanghai are still rising as millions remain isolated at home under a sweeping lockdown. Health officials on Sunday reported 438 confirmed cases detected over the previous 24 hours, along with 7,788 asymptomatic cases. Both figures were up slightly from the day before.

    Sri Lankan Navy arrests 12 Indian fishermen

    As many as 12 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu have been arrested by the Sri Lankan navy for allegedly fishing in its waters, a Fisheries official here said on Sunday. One boat was also impounded. They fishers were engaged in fishing near Katchatheevu late on Saturday when they were apprehended by the Lankan navy, the official said.

    Warsaw accuses Paris, Berlin of being too close to Moscow

    Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to face no-confidence vote today

    Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers in West Bank

    Three Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers southwest of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, Palestinian and Israeli sources said. Mahmoud al-Saadi, Director of emergency in Jenin, told Xinhua news agency that the Israeli soldiers shot dead three Palestinians early Saturday morning and did not allow the Palestinian medical staff to receive the bodies. Palestinian security sources said Israeli soldiers opened fire at a car with three men in it, and prevented ambulances from reaching the car to provide the men with first aid, Xinhua news agency reported. The Palestinian factions in Jenin have declared a public mourning in the city.

    At least eight dead after rains pound Brazil's Rio state

    Heavy rains and landslides have killed at least eight people, with eight more missing, firefighters in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state said Saturday. Heavy rains across the state began on Thursday night and continued through Saturday morning, with houses and at times entire neighborhoods flooding. Firefighters confirmed the deaths of five people in the city of Angra dos Reis, about a three-hour drive from Rio de Janeiro city, and three more deaths in the nearby municipalities of Paraty and Mesquita. At least 8 people were still missing.

    Pakistan ready for talks with India?

    Ahead of the deceive no-confidence motion against Imran Khan on Sunday, Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Bajwa indicated that Pakistan is ready to talk with India to resolve all outstanding issues, including the Kashmir issue.

    "Pakistan continues to believe in using dialogue and diplomacy to resolve all outstanding issues, including the Kashmir dispute and is ready to move forward on this front if India also agrees to do so," Pakistan's COAS was quoted as saying by Dawn Newspaper.

    He made these remarks on Saturday during the Islamabad Security Dialogue. Last year, Gen Bajwa had made similar remarks at this very event when he had said it was time for India-Pakistan to "bury the past and move forward".

    Iraq welcomes UN-backed two-month truce in Yemen

    Iraq on Saturday welcomed the United Nations' announcement of a two-month ceasefire in Yemen, stressing that a political solution is the only way to end the war in the country, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "Iraq supports the efforts made by the United Nations through its special envoy and other concerned countries to resolve the (Yemeni) crisis and take the approach of dialogue," the statement said.

    Ukraine claims control over Kyiv region as Russia looks east

    Ukraine said on Saturday its forces had seized back all areas around Kyiv, claiming complete control of the capital region for the first time since Russia launched the invasion. As Russian troops regrouped for battles in east Ukraine, towns surrounding Kyiv bore scars of five weeks of fighting. Dead civilians laid scattered over streets, and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accused Russian forces of leaving behind mines.
