The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, and Delhi-based Jamia Hamdard University are among the eight deemed-to-be universities open to the idea of adopting the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admitting students in undergraduate programmes from the 2022-23 academic session.

UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar announced this on Monday after a meeting with the Vice-Chancellors and Directors of these institutes. On Sunday, the UGC had appealed to public universities under state governments, colleges and private universities to consider CUET for UG admissions.

โ€œThe fact that eight deemed-to-be-universities have expressed willingness to use the CUET for carrying out admissions is important because this will encourage other higher education institutions also,” Kumar said.

Apart from TISS and Jamia Hamdard, the other six institutes that participated in the meeting are: Gandhigram Rural Institute; Dayalbagh Education Institution, Agra; Gurukul Kangri, Haridwar; Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad; Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore; Ramakrishna Vivekananda Educational Research Institute, Kolkata.
