Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 4 Grand Opening Live: Follow all the live updates about the reality show here.The fourth season of the much-anticipated Bigg Boss Malayalam premiered on Sunday with superstar Mohanlal as its host. The show introduced audience to its 16 contestants, including Blesslee, Sooraj Thelakkad, Lakshmi Priya, Kutty Akhil and Aparna Mulberry, among others.
The previous season went on air last year in February. However, the season was cancelled unceremoniously midway owing to the complication induced by the second wave of the Covid infections. The contestants of the Bigg Boss house in Chennai were evicted and later the property was sealed by the local authorities, who also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the showrunners for violating safety guidelines.
When things came under control in August last year, the showrunners picked a winner based on the audience’s voting. And the winner was announced at an in-person event. Contestant Manikuttan became the winner of the last season.
It’s worth noting that the pandemic had also interrupted the proceedings of the second season of Bigg Boss Malayalam.
Mohanlal gave his best wishes to the contestants and signed off for tonight.
Dilsha Prasannan is the 16th contestant to enter the house. Her claim to fame is her stint as a contestant of talent show, D4 Dance. She lives in Bengaluru and loves to do adventurous things. She also likes to go on long bike rides. "You have all supported me for my dancing skills. This is the opportunity for me to show who real Dilsha is. I hope you will continue to support me," she said.
Musican Blesslee is the 15 contestant to enter the season. He says he had battled through depression and a strict diet helped him beat it. He says he only eats two times a day and he will follow the same lifestyle inside the house as well. Besides singing, he also says he is practicing yoga and meditation. "Teach it to others in the house too. They will need it," says Mohanlal. Blesslee nods in agreement.
Sooraj Thelakkad is the 14th contestant to enter the season. He had played the role of Android robot in Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25. Dressed in a traditional attire inspired by Mohanlal, Sooraj seems to believe that it is not the size of the dog but the size of the fight in the dog that matters.
Aparna Mulberry has flown down from France to be part of Bigg Boss season 4. Her fluency in Malayalam will give the native Malayalam speakers a run for their money. Born in America, she lived in Kerala when she was young. She is married to Amritha Sri, who lives in France and is also learning Malayalam to watch the show. Aparna's claim to fame is her online videos where she teaches how to communicate in English.
Aswin Vijay, a popular magician, is the 12th contestant to enter the season. He says Mohanlal's Maanthrikam influenced him to pursue magic seriously. And he promises to show off his magic tricks inside the house too.
Nisha PS is a fitness enthusiast. She says she has faced body-shaming for her weight over the years. She has lost 27 kg since and she nurtures an ambition to act in movies.
TV actor Ronson Vincen is the 10th contestant of the season. "At least give him 6 eggs everyday," Ronson's mother requests Mohanal. He says he's a fitness enthusiast and a foodie. And he promises he's ready to work hard to get his six eggs inside the house.
Daisy David, a popular celebrity photographer in Kerala, is the ninth contestant of the evening. "If anyone come itching for a fight, I will give right back to them," she says. Born in Mumbai, she says she studied photography through YouTube videos. She can also sing.
Kutty Akhil aka Akhil Nair is the eighth contestant to enter the show. He is a comedy performer and he became popular after participating in Comedy Stars Season 2.' He is also known for his negative role in TV serial Karuthamuthu.
Jasmine M Moosa is a fitness coach. She lives in Bengaluru with her girlfriend and a pet dog. Inside the Bigg Boss house, she says that she wants to make up for all the workout sessions she had to miss during the lockdown.
Shalini, a native of Tiruvandipuram, is the sixth contestant of the show. She is a single mother. She says her son, brother and father are her pillars of support. She seems like an emotional person.
Dhanya Mary Varghese is the fifth contestant to enter the show. She has acted as Mohanlal's daughter in Pranayam. She is married to John who is also a actor-dancer. The couple has a son. In 2017, she was arrested in connection with a fraud case.
Instagram influencer Dr Robin Radhakrishnan aka 'Doctor Machaan' is the fourth contestant to enter the show. A doctor by profession, he is also a motivational speaker and an actor. "I am totally harmless but I would react, should anyone provoke. I am a bit short tempered," he said. He said he works as a duty medical officer at a hospital where he was born.
Third contestant of the season is Lakshmi Priya. She had acted both in films and TV shows. Born Sabeena, she converted to Hinduism and changed her name after her marriage to P Jayesh. It's worth noting that she made her acting debut with Naran. Mohanlal says she is known for playing big sister roles in movies and she will also play the same role in the house.
Actor-model Janaki Sudheer made quite an entry on the stage with a dance performance. She said she has done supporting roles in about 13 movies so far. She added she has acted in a silent movie, which is yet to release in cinemas soon. She claimed she wants to be a trailblazer for people of her community and inspire them to aspire for big things.
Television celebrity Naveen Arakkal is the first contestant to enter the house this season. He is a known face among the audience of the viewers of Malayalam television shows. He is known for his roles in TV serials like Seetha, Padatha Painkili. He says that he got this opportunity after trying it for that last three seasons.
"We all have a unique personality and that's what makes us normal. Between season 1 and season 4, the world has undergone a huge change and so have we. Things we didn't even consider earlier have now become normal -- a new normal. And this show is also going to reflect that new normal," Mohanlal said.
