Stock market update: Power stocks up as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Thursday's session.

K.P.I. Global Infrastructure(up 4.99%), RTNPOWER(up 4.55%), Jyoti Structures(up 3.11%), Alstom T&D India(up 2.76%), Karma Energy(up 2.53%), Tata Power Company(up 2.22%), Torrent Power(up 2.07%), Hitachi Energy India(up 1.52%), Adani Power(up 1.50%) and NTPC(up 1.46%) stood among the top gainers.

Indowind Energy(down 4.92%), Energy Development Company(down 4.27%), Orient Green Power Company(down 3.21%), Suzlon Energy(down 1.59%), Jaiprakash Power Ventures(down 1.44%), Gujarat Industries Power(down 1.32%), DPSC(down 1.06%), Inox wind(down 1.00%), PTC India(down 0.98%) and SJVN(down 0.91%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 22.9 points down at 17222.75, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 89.14 points at 57595.68.

Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 4.87%), Coal India(up 2.38%), Hindalco Industries(up 2.22%), UltraTech Cement(up 1.89%), Tech Mahindra(up 1.71%), Reliance Industries(up 1.55%), JSW Steel(up 1.52%), Tata Steel(up 1.47%), NTPC(up 1.46%) and Cipla(up 1.43%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 3.14%), Titan Company Ltd(down 2.66%), HDFC Bank(down 2.47%), ICICI Bank(down 1.96%), HDFC(down 1.53%), Divis Laboratories(down 1.29%), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.15%), TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(down 1.11%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(down 1.09%) and Mahindra & Mahindra(down 1.09%) closed in the red.
