NEW DELHI: Mining shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

Ashapura Minechem(up 19.98%), Pokarna(up 5.64%), MOIL(up 5.40%), Oriental Trimex(up 4.02%) and Madhav Marbles and Granites(up 1.57%) stood among the top gainers.

KIOCL(down 2.14%), Lexus Granito(down 1.43%), Aro Granite Industries(down 1.08%), Orissa Minerals Development Company(down 0.71%), NMDC Ltd(down 0.36%), Coal India(down 0.16%), 20 Microns(down 0.13%) and Gujarat Mineral Dvpt Corporation(down 0.09%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 69.85 points down at 17245.65, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 304.48 points at 57684.82.

Hindalco Industries(up 2.53%), Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 2.41%), Divis Laboratories(up 2.36%), Tata Steel(up 2.23%), UPL Ltd(up 1.66%), JSW Steel(up 1.13%), ITC(up 0.9%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 0.87%), Power Grid Corporation of India(up 0.67%) and Eicher Motors(up 0.58%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, HDFC(down 2.35%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 2.11%), Bharti Airtel(down 1.99%), Britannia Industries(down 1.78%), Cipla(down 1.76%), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.57%), Bajaj Auto(down 1.5%), Mahindra & Mahindra(down 1.46%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(down 1.45%) and Hero MotoCorp(down 1.2%) closed in the red.
