Stock market update: Sugar stocks down as market rises

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed higher in the Tuesday's session.

Ponni Sugars(Erode)(up 6.55%), Ugar Sugar Works(up 4.97%), Mawana Sugars(up 3.49%), Triveni Engineering & Industries(up 2.58%), EID Parry(up 1.72%), MAGADHSUGAR(up 0.95%), K.M.Sugar Mills(up 0.92%), Dharani Sugars & Chemicals(up 0.51%), Sakthi Sugars(up 0.32%) and Shree Renuka Sugars(up 0.27%) stood among the top gainers.

Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals(down 2.78%), Vishwaraj Sugar Industries(down 2.33%), BAJAJHIND(down 2.22%), Balrampur Chini Mills(down 1.63%), AVADHSUGAR(down 1.49%), Simbhaoli Sugars(down 1.16%), Kothari Sugars & Chemicals(down 1.13%), Bannari Amman Sugars(down 1.10%), Rana Sugars(down 0.47%) and Dalmia Bharat Sugar & Industries(down 0.31%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 197.9 points up at 17315.5, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 696.81 points at 57989.3.

Tech Mahindra(up 3.95%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(up 3.14%), Tata Motors(up 2.9%), Reliance Industries(up 2.58%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 2.25%), JSW Steel(up 2.23%), ITC(up 2.15%), Tata Consultancy(up 2.05%), Bajaj Finserv(up 1.94%) and Bajaj Auto(up 1.88%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever(down 2.81%), Nestle India(down 2.5%), Britannia Industries(down 2.44%), Cipla(down 1.69%), Divis Laboratories(down 0.17%), Tata Steel(down 0.07%), Shree Cement(down 0.07%) and NTPC(down 0.04%) closed in the red.
